Hiking in the Rockies and hiking in the Alps you meet some fine people. Good people, some chatty, some preoccupied. What struck me the most in Austria was the greeting they used. “Grüß Gott!”. Google translates this as Good Day but it’s not quite right. Greetings to God is more like it. But, hey, you talkin’ to me? Or some holy person hiking right behind me? Or maybe the wonderful scenery we take for granted. Nice.
Here is my hiker tessellation. Ah, nice guys sharing their compass and hiking stick. But the whistle attached to his pack is completely from the Island. Scares away the well fed, blasé black bears. Faut pas perdre le nord, facile s’il y en a deux! Regardez la boussole.
