This one is going to take quite some time to complete. Stay tuned! It started off as an exercise in tessellating pentagons. Not an easy task. It took mathematicians over a 100 years to figure out all of the ways it could be accomplished. Good article about pentagons on the Quanta Magazine website, check it out.
One measly attempt below, to come up with a monohedral (one shape) type three, P3, pentagonal tessellation. My process quickly derailed and became another one of my creatures. I can’t stay focused enough for Islamic Geometric Designs, what makes me think I could limit myself to the straight line geometry of tessellating pentagons. LOL.
No symmetricks here, pure nested shape with no spaces, overlaps, or shared space. More to come.
“Above us, outlined against the brilliant sky, dragons crowded every available perching space on the Rim. And the sun made a gold of every one of them.”
