Clocks back one hour tonight. Spring forward — Fall Back. This symmetry design is built using a simple glide reflection all the way along the line. Resting dogs, using their buddy’s butt as a pillow. Continue reading
The size of the audience for this type of art-form is microscopically small. When you start talking about your tessellation passion, someone inevitably says, “Ah ya you do that stuff”. From decades ago, “oh ya, I remember your drawings”. Other than family and friends putting up with your gushing obsession, you’re lucky to have a handful of patrons. Math teachers, grade school kids, and a few geometry nerds don’t constitute a large client base, lol. Continue reading
Finally got around to creating a “Cheat Sheet” for starting a tessellation. A page of my own. Sometimes I need to physically mime my ideas, so hands are a good base to use here. Often it is difficult to decide which group to choose to accomplish a certain design. Continue reading
Quite similar to one tessellation I did a few weeks ago. The Three Dogs tessellation. But this one is based on a six way rotation, group P6 rather than P3. If you have a look at both, the tails swirl around into a spiral, the Dash Hounds using 6 instances of tails, the originals using three tails. Continue reading

Having a heck of a time deciding on what to call this tessellation. Redhead. Pearl J. Bailey. Crimson Cutie. Reclining Doudette. Reeboks. MJDSV. The little black dress. Continue reading
Found another iPad App to do tessellations. Sames rules of symmetry, but with different tools. iOrnament. I’ve only played with it for a week now, but here are a few differences and advantages listed. Continue reading
My initial encounter with the Flower of Life design, off a FB post last week.
At first glance, I was thinking this might be a P6m symmetry challenge. Pulled up KaleidoPaint on the tablet and tested my theory.
The Android version of KaleidoPaint is finally finished and publicly available. I would like to share this spectacular and free app with the group Broug Atelier for Islamic Geometric Design.
Symmetry group P4g, a square mirror box with a four way rotation in the middle. Very constraining to build a flowing figure within such a rigid set of rules. In the image below, starting in the middle of the square, the “x” indicates the four way rotation. Continue reading
Yes, Couch Kartoffel, that’s Couch Potato. A Cajun recipe. A melding of the dog and the master some insightful viewer noted. Dog in control, with the remote in paw. And it’s not the TV remote, Continue reading
A sketch. Might clean up the lines and fills. He does look a little depressed. Poor bugger. Shit happens. Continue reading
Please, do not go out to eat at the restaurant Cuckoo Trattoria and Pizzeria out behind the Goats on the Roof, in Coombs, Vancouver Island, BC. Food poisoning! Continue reading
Hiking in the Rockies and hiking in the Alps you meet some fine people. Good people, some chatty, some preoccupied. What struck me the most in Austria was the greeting they used. “Grüß Gott!”. Continue reading
