Okay, so it’s not exactly the best hashtag to use, but she does destroy every ball we’ve ever given her. She even plays tennis ball tug-o-war with her best mate. This tessellation created in symmetry group P6, a favourite.

Continue readingI’ll be setting up a series of videos on Skillshare this fall. If you don’t know what Skillshare is, do check it out.
Continue readingThis is quite unusual. Three heron art pieces in the last year. Maybe it’s my spirit animal. Quite a few of them in the creek and ponds around the house.
This tessellation fresh off the iPad. Brenikou, a Greek tessellation artist sent me an email with a tease —
Continue readingHey, nice fish. Do you catch and release? Bit of exageration going on in the drawing as well as in reel life. All bent over and stretched out, imitating the size of his catch, same as stretching reality. Elvis hairdoo. All in good fun. Would be cool to have a long sleeve t-shirt with a measuring tape printed from hand to outstretched hand! Continue reading
Yes, another mountain biker. But this one drawn in symmetry system P6, that’s one 6-point rotation, one 3-point rotation and one 2-point rotation. Have a careful look at those bike wheels. They are being shared by multiple bikers. Bike Sharing, very popular these days.
There is a very cool feature in iOrnament, the app animates the steps used to create your #tessellations. It is interesting to see the path used to achieve the end result; not always a straight line. I think #MCEsher would have been fascinated! Continue reading
Totally enjoying the “realign” function in KaleidoPaint. Not only does it unskew the symmetry’s grid, but it also sets the grid to the same view. This is what makes it possible for me to share short animations of my tessellation processes. Continue reading
Djeeewizz it’s hot out today, sure hope my hair doesn’t get too messed up. Another tessellation popping up out of the blue. Have no idea where these originate from, deep within my cranium. She sort of reminds me a bit of Continue reading
Quite similar to one tessellation I did a few weeks ago. The Three Dogs tessellation. But this one is based on a six way rotation, group P6 rather than P3. If you have a look at both, the tails swirl around into a spiral, the Dash Hounds using 6 instances of tails, the originals using three tails. Continue reading

My garden beds wander all over the place. My hair flies as it wishes, always has. My tessellations don’t follow established “rules”, I cheat with shared space (although I find that cool still), and hidden or overlaps in spaces. Why would I even think I could draw IGDs, Islamic Geometric Designs. Way too structured and rigid for me. But oh so cool, with millions of different permutations, colours, styles. Still. I like geometry. This one reminds me of the Magenta Mayhem tessellation I did a while back.
Continue readingYou see? This is where my hands naturally fall in place. Right here. These jacket designers went and put the pockets way back there, as if I’m a gunslinger reaching for my Colts. Continue reading
Pictured here, my recent attempt at drawing Islamic Geometric Patterns, from a great book by Eric Broug. I will post more as I become better at this. Continue reading
I have been expanding my study of tessellations to include Islamic Geometric Designs. Extremely complex and rigid structures hide behind these creations. Continue reading
